Distinct problem - how can I sort this?
I have a table sent to me from another source over which i have no control of the content (they don't sem to be able to get a distinct instance of persons for some reason? - anyway that is out of my control)
Now this table contains multiple instances of persons, each person has a unique identifier plus a set of dates and a field that indicates the state of that person (can be 'Curr' or 'Ex').
Fields are as follows:-
PersonID - char(10) - This is unique identifier for each person
Date1 - DateTime
P_State - char(20)
Sample of data from table1:-
-
PersonID - Date1 - P_State
A11324 1998-04-21 Curr
A11324 1999-05-01 Ex
A11324 1998-07-12 Ex
A11324 1998-05-23 Curr
B44321 1999-07-01 Curr
B11111 1999-07-01 Ex
B11111 1998-03-01 Curr
B22222 1999-03-31 Ex
B22222 1998-04-11 Curr
B33333 2004-03-10 Curr
B44443 2002-09-01 Curr
-
What I need to get is the latest instance of each person and their present p_state, I've tried many ways but can't seem to get a distinct instance of the latest record for each person, can anyone point me in the right direction please.
thanks.
select personid,max(date1),p_state
from table1
group by personid,p_state
|||thanksbut that doesn't give me a single instance of each person?
It's much the same as
select personid,date1,p_state
from table1
order by personid,date1
is it not ?
edit
Sorted now thanks, I removed the p_state in your query and then used the output as a basis for another query.
Thanks.

Distinct Count in a new Measure Group
Here is the situation:
I have a cube that has transaction level data and there is a control number that goes with this data, but it isn't one for one. If I have 60 million rows in the fact table, I have 50 million control numbers in a control number dimension.
I would like to be able to slice the data by date (for instance) and then do a distinct count on the control number dimension. I can do a distinct count w.o having to do a join of course because I can count the distinct instances of the key to the control number dimension.
One more note - the control number dimension is not a degenerate dimension...it is not one to one on the fact table.
I would like to use the DISTINCT COUNT measure in SSAS, but it makes me create a new measure group to do so. All of my additive measures are in one group, the distinct count is forced into another group. This forces double the processing time.
Does anyone know why this behavour happens and can someone explain why a DISTINCT COUNT measure has to go in a seperate measure group?
Thanks,
Mark
Mark,
Do you already have a DISTINCT COUNT measure in that measure group? Analysis Services will only allow you to have one DISTINCT COUNT per measure group.
|||Maybe this MDX will overcome the limitation of one unqiue count.Distinct(Filter([Customer].[Customer Name].Members,Not IsEmpty([Measures].[Sales Amount]))).Count
Timmy|||
Actually, I don't have one in the first measure group. The first measure group is just regular measures, but if I create a new measure that is a distinct count measure, it automatically puts it in another group.
I have now heard from other sources that this is an exptected behavior. So no biggie, just needed to know.
ps - sorry it took so long to respond.
Thanks,

Displaying Data Columnwise in Reportviewer
hai,
iam new to the ReportViewer control.when i display data from Dataset it is displayed in Rowwise.ie,
if Name and place is to be displayed then it is displaying in
Name1 Place1
Name2 Place2
i want to display in column wise
ie,Name1 Place1 Name2 Place2
can anybody tell which control can perform this functionality?
HI, jobinthomasv:
Matrix is a data region that arranges data into columns and rows that intersect at specific data points. Matrices provide functionality similar to crosstabs and pivot tables. Unlike a table, which has a static set of columns, matrix columns can be dynamic. You can define matrices that contain static and dynamic rows and columns. For more information, seeAdding Matrix Data Regions.

Displaying a RS2000 Report in a .NET 2.0 control
I need to display a report on a winform.
The report is a RS2000 report served by a RS2000 server.
The winform is in a VB .NET 2.0 (VS 2005) project.
1) Can I use a ReportViewer control (.NET 2.0) on this winform to display
this RS2000 report?
2) Must the ReportViewer control have its own dataset even though the report
is being served?
Thank you in advance,
RichardTwo modes for control: server and local. Local requires giving the control
the rdlc file and the dataset. Server mode doesn't and is much easier to do.
BUT, the server mode works only with RS 2005.
Your best bet is to embed an IE control and use URL integration.

But using the IE control and url integration, how can the navigation links
("My Subscriptions") and tabs ("Properties | History | Subscriptions") at the
top of the report's page be disabled or removed so the user don't see them,
just the report?
Thank you in advance,
Richard

Displaying “Print” and “Print Preview” icons in the toolbar
Hi,
I'm using the "ReportViewer" control to display a report. I can see the "Print" and "Print Preview" icons in the toolbar when I'm in the "Preview" environment. When I run the report and when I use the "ReportViewer" I cannot see these 2 icons.
Can some please advice me how to view these icons.

Display Reports in ASP.Net 2.0
like there are in SharePoint? Or is it that ReportViewer control? I am
running SQL 2005 Reporting Services.
Thanks,
DougSYou have three options.
1. Integrate using URL integration.
2. Integrate using web services and handle the nuts and bolts yourself
3. Use the new reportviewer control that comes with VS 2005 (it does not
come with RS 2005). This control is a major improvement over the example
(which is really all the previous one was) that shipped with RS 2000. This
control uses web services internally. My suggestion is to take a long hard
look at using this control. It is far and away the best way to integrate
with your own ASP.net application (this control is a asp.net 2.0 control).

Display Dimensions in Folders
Hello,
I created a cube, and when I show the dimensions using the PivotTable control and Excel 2007, I would like to be able to show the dimensions groupped in Folder as we can do with attributes, and measures.
Does SQL Server 2005 analysis services support that ? or some suggest how could i do it?
I hope you can help me....
Thank you!
Sorry, but this can't be done. Dimensions are a top level object.
If you are using the Enterprise Edition and you have lots of dimensions, you could use the perspectives feature to create different perspectives with sub sets of the dimensions. The only problem with this is that perspectives appear to a lot of client applications like separate cubes and as such it is not always easy to swap between them with these applications.
|||Hello Darren,
I'll read about Perspectives.
